Workshop on decision support systems in business

An eye-opening experience…

Have you ever wondered how your UPS package with the latest spring collection can reach you within a tight specific time frame? And there is not only your package on its way, there are millions of people worldwide impatiently waiting for the latest fashion conveniently delivered to their living room.

How could it be possible to deliver all those packages without major delays?

If you consider the traffic on the streets, construction sides, directing times and all other obstacles that can occur during the delivery, there must be something bigger behind than just fast drivers to make the process running smoothly.

Our students just loved it

You can count yourself lucky if you are a BBA student at SSM, as they had the great opportunity to get an answer during yesterday’s ACTOR workshop within the premises of Rome University – La Sapienza. At this point we want to thank Prof. Paolo Massafra, who did the arrangement and made this workshop possible.

The demonstration of a corporate decision-making software and the process control of solutions, was amazing. Thanks to the Act-Operations Research Team, Ms. Elisa Scandariato and Mr. Umberto Dellepiane, who were so kind and took their time to illustrate, present and explain the ingenious decision support system in an understandable way.

What is a DDS?

A decision support system (DSS) is an information system that supports business or organizational decision-making activities. The computer program application analyses business data and presents it so that users can make business decisions more easily.

Decision support systems can help business people perform a wide variety of functions, including cash flow analysis, concept ranking, multistage forecasting, product performance improvement, and resource allocation analysis. The time was flying and at the end of an extraordinary afternoon, there was also room for questions and discussion with the Actor team. Every reputable business school should give you the opportunity to get in contact with professionals in order to get information’s from frist-hand and learn from the best!

At the end of the day, students were obviously impressed, being aware that these systems are behind many processes, leading to receiving their Christmas presents on time this year.
